Why Lando Vannata Will Win Knockout of the Night at UFC 209

UFC 209 is a card that features a long list of UFC stars. Tyron Woodley, Stephen Thompson, and Rashad Evans will appear but after Vannata and Teymur step into the cage, there will be no doubt on what bout will win knockout of the night.

Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson will face off again in a Fight of the Night rematch from UFC 205 that ended in a draw. Rashad Evans looks to continue his storied career in a new division, while Mark Hunt and Alistair Overeem look to rebound after having their win streaks snapped.

Despite all the firepower, one fight will emerge as the clear knockout of the night. Lando Vannata first made a name for himself when he stepped in as a last-minute replacement to face Tony Ferguson at UFC Fight Night 91. Vannata had Ferguson in a dangerous spot in the first round and had many people believing he could pull off one of the biggest upsets in UFC history.

Unfortunately, the second round did not go nearly as well as the first round. Ferguson choked out Vannata midway through the round. However, he made a name for himself that night. As a result, the UFC scheduled Vannata to square off against John Makdessi at UFC 206. It took Groovy exactly 100 seconds before he pulled off a highlight reel spinning wheel kick to knock Makdessi and show the world he is for real.

Throughout his career, Vannata has only lost one fight (the short-notice bout against Ferguson) and gone to a decision just once. Aside from his four knockouts, Vannata has a very dangerous ground game. He wrestled at the University of Tennessee and owns a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. David Teymur is not as accomplished, nor as skilled.

Teymur emerged from season 22 of the Ultimate Fighter to earn a roster spot with the UFC. He only has five wins, but four of those wins are knockouts. Pepsi is a dangerous Swedish prospect who should keep Vannata uncomfortable, but never cause any concern for Groovy.

Both fighters will enter this fight looking for a knockout, but Vannata will get it early. Prepare for Vannata to add to his highlight reel in the first round and walk away with an extra $50,000.
